Three NCOs at Bedford 1914
|
This picture was taken in the studio of J.T. Welch in Midland Road Bedford in 1914 It shows three friends from "B" Company who all appear on the Buchan Observer Roll. From left to right they are: No 1424 Corporal George Alexander Grant, Millbank, Longside. He was born in 1895, the son of William Grant, farmer, and wife Janet Scott. He does not appear to have gone overseas, however his younger brother L-Cpl James R. Grant (241137), also in the 5th Battalion, was killed in action at Arras on 17 May 1917, aged 19. No 1909 Lance Corporal Norman Davidson, Brae Cott, Longside, was the son of George Davidson, school board clerk and accountant and his wife Mary. Norman was born about 1893 and served with the Battalion in France being promoted to Sergeant (240343). No 1200 Corporal William Craighead, Auchnagatt, was the son of Robert and Mary Craighead. He was born about 1888. He does not appear to have served overseas. My thanks once again to John Wainright for providing me with this photograph. |
