No 412 Cpl. David Callander (7th Bn)
|
David Callander sent this post card to his mother on 25th March 1915. It suggests he was in hospital at the time. He died from a gastris ulcer at his home in Laurencekirk on 4th May 1915, just as the Highland Division was arriving in France. David's father was a master blacksmith and the boy was born at East Braikie Smithy, Kinnell, Forfar, on 29th Sept 1896. The family moved to Laurencekirk in 1903. In civil life David followed his father's profession. (The "Jamie" mentioned in the letter was most probably his younger brother James Henry Callander. My Thanks to David Callander, great-nephew of Corporal Callander for allowing me to reproduce this card. |
