In a letter the chaplain says" Your son was in a trench with some others which was being bombed. An arial torpedo bomb was seen coming over. The bomb burst right on the top of the dug-out and the roof of it fell in on the men who had taken refuge there, killing one outright and knocking your boy senseless..." The chaplain writes to Mrs Cowie that the bodie of her son was one of the few recovered from earth and debris thrown up by a mine explosion, and he was buried by his comrades in a little cemetery behind the lines. | ||
