Buchan Obs. 8/8/1916 - Ellon - Intimation has been received in Ellon that Cpl Alexander Birnie has been killed in action on 1st August. The deceased soldier was a son of Mr James Birnie, caretaker, Gordon Hospital, Ellon, and prior to going to the Gordons was in the service of the Ellon District Committee of the County Council. While on furlough at the end of last year he was married, and much sympathy is extended to his widow and parents. | |
