Sgt Louis Grant

Lewis Alexander Grant was the son of John F. Grant, clothier, of 'The Chestnuts' Mintlaw. He was born at Maud on 13th May 1897 and christened Lewis Grant, but chose to call himself 'Louis' and was known in his family as 'Louie'.  He was educated at Mintlaw Public School and Peterhead Academy.  He joined the 5th Battalion Gordon Highlanders on 6th December 1915.  He died in Abbeville Hospital on 2nd August 1917 from wounds he received at Ypres on 31st of July.
