Born 28/11/1880 in Kirriemuir, third child of John Low and Emma Lason. Married 1/6/1910 to Jessie Stenhouse - 6 children. Graduated MA Edinburgh University and taught at Gillespie School before becoming headmaster at Kininmonth. He was afterwards at Fraserburgh before going to Old Deer in 1919. He retired in 1945 and went to line in New Pitsligo. Awarded OBE for military and public service, and the Territorial Decoration.   • Lieutenant Colonel Grant, DSO, of Monymusk, was formerly a captain in the 12th Lancers.
  • Major H Martin is a son of Mr David Martin, solicitor and town clerk, Peterhead. Major Martin was promoted from captain after the battalion went to England.
  • Major C W L Fowlie, who is in command of the Oldmeldrum Company, is tenant of the farm of Bogrechel, Oldmeldrum
  • Captain F S Runciman, is the only son of Mr John Runciman, Auchmill, King-Edward, and is in command of the Turriff Company.
  • Captain S McDonald is a partner of the firm of Messrs McDonald and Richards, solicitors, Fraserburgh.
  • Captain John G Morrison, who is at present in charge of the transport section, was for a long time in charge of the depot at Peterhead. Captain Morrison has a bakery business at Maud.
  • Captain J Watson was a schoolmaster at Foveran.
  • Captain George Mitchell is a fishcurer, and has a business in Fraserburgh.
  • Captain J T Low is a native of Kirriemuir, Forfarshire, and was schoolmaster at Kinmundy, Longside, Aberdeenshire.
  • Captain G Martin Gray is the eldest son of the late Mr Robert Gray, solicitor, Peterhead, and is a partner of the firm Gray & Gray, solicitors, Peterhead.
  • Captain and Adjutant Cruden of the Black Watch was appointed to the 5th Gordons about a couple of years ago. He is a son of Mr George Cruden, advocate, Aberdeen.
  • Lieutenant W Lyall is a schoolmaster at Turriff.
  • Lieutenant R Cowie carries on a commission agent's business at Longside.
  • Lieutenant G A C Moir is a native of  Methlick.
  • Lieutenant C T A Robertson is a son of the late Mr Robert Robertson, Commercial Bank, Peterhead. Lieutenant Robertson at the outbreak of the war was at Singapore, and was gazetted lieutenant when he came home.
  • Lieutenant P C Bird, prior to the war was engaged at the Pneumatic Toolworks, Fraserburgh.
  • Lieutenant R B Vincent is the son of a retired Colonel.
  • Lieutenant the Hon. R A Forbes-Sempill, brother of Lord Sempill of Craigievar and Fintray, was gazetted after the outbreak of the war.
  • Second Lieutenant J Simpson was a schoolmaster at Fraserburgh.
  • Second Lieutenant P T Pirie is a son of Mr D V Pirie, MP for North Aberdeen, and was commissioned after the war began.
  • Second Lieutenant J McCulloch was a teacher at the Dollar Institute.
  • Second Lieutenant R Lyon is a son of Sir Alexander Lyon, ex-Lord Provost of Aberdeen.
  • Second Lieutenant C T McWilliam is a son of Rev T McWilliam, minister of Foveran.
  • Second Lieutenant R J Troup belongs to Aberdeen and obtained his commission after hostilities commenced.
  • Second Lieutenant P Walton was gazetted from the Bedfordshire Yeomanry, and is in charge of the Maxim gun section.
  • Second Lieutenant F Martin is a journalist on the staff of the "Morning Post". He is a son of ex-Bailie Martin, Peterhead.
  • Second Lieutenant V C Bruce is the proprietor of the estate of Inverquhomery, Longside, and brother-in-law to Captain G M Gray.
  • Second Lieutenants L C H Fuller and T O Roberts are both Englishmen and joined the regiment at Bedford.
  • Hon Lieutenant and Quartermaster Marr was a sergeant in the 2nd Gordons, and was at Peterhead for several years as sergeant of the 5th Gordons.
