 This card was written by No. 1788 James Mitchell of South Collielaw to Ruth, his friend and near neighbour.  James was a member of the 1st/5th Battalion Gordon Highlanders and at the time of writing was stationed at Bedford.  From the content and date of the card, it would appear he had recently returned from Christmas leave.  In Bedford the troops were billeted in private houses or unoccupied dwellings.  James Mitchell survived the War.
